After a frantic end of season and the Chinese throwing blogger of the web, here I am posting this to inform you that this blog is on hold until the authorities clear the small problem up.

This weeks games at Tianma and Century Park.

Can the Italians stop the U-Team in their tracks or will Xutao's blue army keep marching on to the title this season. Will the Sauerkrauts halt their recent misfortune and beat the Voodoo. With big John Jofre back in shanghai for the weekend is there any chance that Japan can stop the Shooters machine grinding forward. Will Corea let the Krauts know who thay are and take a victory at Tianma. Voodoo child take on Qilin B in the afternoons final fixture, be interesting to see who claims this result.

This years end of season presentation evening tickets are now available from the box office.

This year we have the all you can eat international buffet, free flow beer, stand up comic (although I can't imagine Zippy standing very long with free beer) cup presentations, pool for those that need to cool down and all the usual give aways.

All for only 200 RMB and there will be a subsidy which will be confirmed prior to the event.

Book with your team captains now, tickets are limited availability and will be sold on a first come basis.

Fantastic football from Tianma and Century Park.

Japan take the prize for the biggest score line with a 12-1 thrashing of an undersized Sauerkrauts squad, Krauts come undone against Anzac as they go down 4-2, Anzac certainly looking like contenders for next seasons top honours in Division one. Oranje put up a brave fight against U-Team but lose 3-2, Oranje led the game for a large part of it but U-Teams class showed in the later part of the game. Azzuri knock the Vikings out of the SIFL cup quarter finals and book their game against the Shooters on the 23rd. Cosmos take the one point they needed to secure their place in top flight football next season with a draw against Crown Re-United, Cosmos took the lead in the second half but with Sebastian 20 month old daughter cooing on the sidelines the Cosmos didn't have the heart to finish the game and allowed Crown to score the equaliser in the last part of the match. Qilin A had a player crisis when one coughed and they all thought they had panda flu and failed to show, Bulldogs win by default. Qilin B fought a tough game only to lose at the end by one goal in their clash with Corea Intl.

A return to action this weekend as 2 SIFL cup games are decided at Tianma and the league continues with a division one clash that could well see Cosmos follow the Shanghai Krauts into the SIFL Premier division next season. Krauts look to continue their winning ways against Anzac on Saturday but with Anzac finding their form this could be a very hard battle for the Krauts and a test of their metal. Oranje are hoping to stop their losing streak but have a job and a half on their hands as they face this season cup and possible league Champions, U-Team might just prove a little to strong for Oranje but we wish Oranje the best of luck. Takeuchi of Japan FC will be wanting to increase his goal tally against the Sauerkrauts but will the Sauerkrauts have the sausage to hold him back. Azzuri take on the Vikings in the SIFL cup clash for a chance to decide who takes on the Shooters in the cup semi finals. Qilin A and B face the Shanghai Bulldogs and Corea Intl at Century Park and round off what should be a great afternoon of football.

Congratulations to Ned Kelly of the Voodoo for his inspirational performance last night at Century Park. Ned put in another 4 goals and added to his teams win against Qilin B.

Ned sits on a total of 26 goals and he's going for 30 plus before the final day of the season.

Will anybody catch him or does he have it wrapped up for this season.

Voodoo now have Cosmos in their sights although Cosmos only need one point from their next and last game of the season.

It's going to be an interesting few weeks ahead between these two sides, the bottom line will be, can Voodoo rely on their experience to claw back Cosmos or will Cosmos young/new side bottle it or hold their form at the final hurdle.

It is coming to that time of year we all dread, the end of season. No football league for three months, hot humid weather and the cricket season.

Can we ask that all team captains submit their articles and photos for this years edition of the Mei Wenti before 7 May in order for them to be edited and put to print.

The end of season presentation and closing party draws ever closer, with more players in the league then ever before we expect a spectacular party. Please ensure all your teams are aware of what is happening and their invites have been sent and acknowledged.

Plenty of Pain and gain.

The Gain:

Anzac take another victory with 1-0 win over the Voodoo, Japan have a goal festival against Beaver United with a 5-1 win at Tianma, Shanghai Krauts ensure their promotion the premiership by beating Crown Re-United, Shooters with only half of their normal squad and a handful of new starters beat Azzuri 0-3, Corea international and the Crazy Turks fight a hard battle and Corea take the Crown with a 4-3 win, U-Team win by default after Latinos fail to show with a full team and Sauerkrauts emulate their big brother the Krauts with a 5-0 win against Qilin B without kicking a ball due to Qilin B not having sufficient team numbers to play the game, Sauerkrauts win by default.

The Pain:

Sadly Guillarme Leclerque of the Azzuri fell during the match against Shanghai Shooters today at Tianma and broke his left wrist/forearm. He was taken to hospital and we all hope that his injury will heal completely. The league wish Guillarme a speedy recovery and look forward to his return to the league. Anyone requiring updates on his injury please email Gianmaria or Nicco.

This weekend has seen the SIFL cup draw in action. It has seen the Shanghai Vikings take bronze medal in the Asian Vikings Asia cup played in Beijing. We have also seen Crown Re-United win the Suzhou cup and now we hear that the Shanghai Krauts have taken first prize and top honours in Bangkok.

Masters tournament in Shanghai ...HOT NEWS...

On September 5/2009 Shanghai will see the start of the Shanghai Masters soccer Tournament. A tournament for the legends of old, the great, the bygone champions, the proven and sadly in some cases... the bald. A chance to play in a legendary competition alongside those who know how to express their talents both on the pitch and off it. Time to join us in Asia's number one veteran football competition, a tournament built for kings, designed for the best in mind and frequented by the worlds real football legends of yesteryear.

We the few, the chosen few are forever young and we still play better football than the youth today.

This tournament is not for the kids but is for the over 40's with the odd exception here and there.

An hectic day of football delight tomorrow as SIFL cup super Saturday kicks off at Tianma at 11am, four games and eight teams battle for places in the SIFL cup quarter finals.

Shanghai Vikings continue their attempt at retaining the Vikings Asian cup in Beijing, day two and Shanghai Vikings kick off the day with their semi final game having played four games on day one and winning qualification to the later rounds.

The beginning of April and an handful of games left in the SIFL and for the last few seasons a team has emerged unreachable at this point of the year but not this season. U-Team with two games in hand but with a couple of hard games coming up look likely winners but nothing is ever in stone when it comes to the SIFL and Claus and his team will not let their title go that easily.

This weekend See's the Shanghai Shooters and U-Team lining up against each other in the SIFL cup quarter finals which as we all know paves the way for any other team in the last eight to make the finals on the last day of the season.

Two weeks later these same teams meet again in the Hebiguchi cup final at Tianma in what promises to be an hard fought encounter. Anyone at Tianma on the 25 April might want to hang around to watch the game but be warned as it will not be a game for the faint hearted.

Cosmos have their eye on removing the Shanghai Krauts from the summit of division one, James Boyle is chasing every result and waiting to stake his claim as number one in the second tier of the league.

Voodoo look the dark horse and their top scorer Ned Kelly will surely add to his outstanding tally this season as he looks to drive the Voodoo back to premiership football.

Oranje and Latino's look ever more likely to face relegation and it will take a miracle for either to overtake the Bulldogs who are sitting on 19 points.

Vikings and Krauts leave this weekend for their tournaments and look to bring back silverware from Beijing and Thailand.

A good climax to the season is gathering pace and with end of season tours and tournaments planned in the city we should see some great football being played.

After a short break for the SIFL teams this weekend action returns on Wednesday evening with the first game of the quarter final in the SIFL cup.

Crown Re-United travel to Century Park and the home of Qilin for what promises to be an exciting encounter. Anyone over in Pudong with nothing to do is welcome to come to Century Park and watch the game which promises to be an exciting encounter between the two rivals.

Bayern Grin as others fade.

Schalke 04 had high hopes for the 2008/09 season but after only a few weeks it was clear the pre-season favourites, with only three wins in the first nine league matches, were just non-starters.

Coach Fred Rutten saw things go even worse as they were eliminated from the Champions League, then the UEFA Cup and were even dumped out of the German Cup by second-division Mainz.

Schalke fans, among the most fervent supporters in Germany, were fuming and demanding the sacking of manager Andreas Mueller and coach Fred Rutten. “Rutten Raus” and “Mueller Raus” chants taunted the pair in almost every match following the winter break.

Even when Schalke scored, their fans would jeer and whistle. Mueller was sent packing in March and a 2-1 defeat against Hamburg sealed Rutten’s fate as well.

But Schalke’s woes were far from over. With no chance of gaining a UEFA Cup spot and forced to take a budget cut with no Champions League revenues next season, the club went in search of a manager with former Bayern Munich keeper Oliver Kahn seen as the frontrunner.

But Kahn, who met Schalke officials to discuss his 30-page concept for the club, surprisingly turned down the offer saying it was too early for him. “They need someone who can be there 100 percent. Time-wise that is not possible for me at this point,” Kahn said.

So back to the search for Schalke, who are looking for an interim manager to steer them through nine remaining league matches with the team stagnant in eighth place, plus a coach for next season and a manager.

The only problem is the new manager is supposed to approve the new coach, and as long as there is no new manager there is no new coach

Meanwhile Bayern Munich are grinning in the corner as yet another recent competitor to their Bundesliga dominance fades into the background for the time being at least.

He was a real miser when it came to his money. He loved money more than just about anything, and just before he died, he said to his wife, "Now listen, when I die, I want you to take all my money and place it in the casket with me. I wanna take my money to the afterlife."

So he got his wife to promise him with all her heart that when he died, she would put all the money in the casket with him.

Well, one day he died. He was stretched out in the casket, the wife was sitting there in black next to her closest friend.

When they finished the ceremony, just before the undertakers got ready to close the casket, the wife said "Wait just a minute!" she had a shoe box with her, she came over with the box and placed it in the casket.

Then the undertakers locked the casket down and rolled it away.

Her friend said, "I hope you weren't crazy enough to put all that money in the casket."

She said, "Yes, I promised. I'm a good christian, I can't lie. I promised him that I was going to put that money in that casket with him."

"You mean to tell me you put every cent of his money in the casket with him?"

"I sure did, " said the wife. "I got it all together, put it into my account and I wrote him a cheque."

For anybody missing their fix of football action over the next ten days and feel the need to get out midweek. Why not pop down to Hongkou Stadium on Tuesday night and watch Shanghai Shenua battle to stay in the ACL.

Chelsea are not the only team sponsored by Samsung, Korea's Suwan Samsung Bluewings roll into town on Tuesday in an attempt to secure their place in the final rounds of the ACL. Shenua are desperate for a decent result and need as much luck as possible after the poor start in the league this season. Tuesday night could be a crunch game that could effect the outcome of the rest of Shenua's season.

Expect both Friday nights league game and Tuesday nights ACL clash to be highly entertaining, the use of a calculator to count the cards during both matches may prove to be very useful.

On the 11th of April Shanghai Krauts travel down to Bangkok in an attempt to make it third time lucky.

The Bangkok Easter Tournament kicks off over the Easter break and the Shanghai Krauts are looking to set the record straight this year by taking first prize. The Krauts have history and unfinished business in Bangkok having been runners up in 2008 and third place in 2007. This year the Krauts hope to take one of the most prestigious trophies in Asia, Daniel Berger and the Krauts team expect and will settle for nothing other than to take the title as Bangkok champions. The last team from the SIFL to win this coveted trophy was the Shanghai Shooters in 2004.

During the same weekend Shanghai Vikings head up to Beijing as defending champions in their attempt to retain their Asian Vikings trophy won last year in the Asian Wide Vikings Asian Tournament hosted in Beijing. Vikings are well prepared and insistent that they shall not return to Shanghai without the trophy.

The league stands behind both these teams and wishes them great success over the weekend.

Once again the SIFL is represented in the finest tournaments in Asia and no doubt Shanghai teams will be loading the trophy rooms again this season.

Shanghai Shenhua suffered their first defeat of the 2009 Chinese Super League season on Saturday night, a solitary goal from Chengdu Blades forward Brazilian Auricélio Neres Rodrigues nine minutes into the second half enough to separate the sides and leave the Shenhua boys facing the long journey back from Sichuan empty-handed.

Next up for them is defending champions Shandong Luneng, who picked up their first win on the season at the weekend, Lebanese playmaker Roda Antar bagging the goal in a 1-0 victory at home to Shaanxi Baorong. Elsewhere, goals from Wang Xinxin and Cao Yang gave Tianjin Teda a comfortable 2-0 win away to newly promoted Zhejiang Lucheng. The northern side now top the CSL table with six points.

Rivals Shenhua and Shandong will both be looking to close the gap on them at Shanghai's Hongkou Stadium this Friday in an intriguing encounter; there is no love lost between the two title-chasing sides who took the race for the championship right down to the final day of last season. Tragic news from Abidjan, where officials say at least 19 people were killed in a stampede at an overcrowded stadium during a World Cup qualifier between Ivory Coast and Malawi.

“We have 19 dead and many seriously injured,” a military source at the stadium said. The crush occurred after part of a wall collapsed when ticket less fans stormed one of the entrances to the 45,000-capacity Houphouet-Boigny arena in the West African country’s main city, Abidjan.

Blatter and platini often complain about the money in the English premier league, they'd rather busy themselves bringing cash and player topics to the fore front of global football news. Neither have commented on the plight of African football safety standards in the wake or prior to this weekends tragedy.

If cash was involved, I've no doubt that the pair of them would be shouting from the roof tops.

So, here we go again. For the fifth successive season, Liverpool will face Chelsea in the Champions League.

Quarter-finals:

Villarreal v Arsenal

Manchester United v Porto

Liverpool v Chelsea

Barcelona v Bayern Munich

Semi-finals:

Manchester United or Porto v Villarreal or Arsenal

Barcelona or Bayern Munich v Liverpool or Chelsea

Liverpool will perhaps be marginal favourites in the all-English quarter-final after knocking Chelsea out at the semi-final stage in 2005 and 2007 but their fans will need no reminding that last season, when Chelsea got to play the second leg at home, it was the Londoners who came through.

This year? Once again, Chelsea will be at home for the second leg. Will that make the difference again?

Otherwise, Man Utd must be pretty pleased with a draw that pits the holders against Porto in the quarter-finals, with a possible semi-final to come against Villarreal or Arsenal (and Arsenal will be pretty pleased as well, you’d think … at least with the first bit).

All those expecting an all-English final, watch out for Barcelona, who should have too much for Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals, with a clash against Liverpool or Chelsea up for grabs.

A Rangers and Celtic fan get into a nasty car accident. Both vehicles are really wrecked, but amazingly neither of them are hurt.

After they crawl out of their cars, the Celtic fan says, "So you're a Rangers fan, that's interesting. I'm a Celtic fan... Wow! Just look at our cars. There's nothing left, but fortunately we are unhurt. This must be a sign from God that we should meet and be friends and live together in peace the rest of our days."

The Rangers fan replied,"Totally agree - this must be a sign from God!" The Rangers fan went on, "And look at this - here's another miracle. My car is completely demolished but this bottle of whisky didn't break. Surely God wants us to drink it, to celebrate the fact we are alive and kicking?"

He hands the bottle to the Celtic fan who nods his head in agreement, opens it and takes a few big swigs from the bottle, then hands it back to the Rangers fan. The Rangers fan takes the bottle, immediately puts the cap back on, and hands the bottle back to the Celtic fan. The Celtic fan asks, "Aren't you having any?" The Rangers fan replies, "Nah...I think I'll just wait for the police......"

Willy Thompson of QiLin B became the youngest goal scorer in the SIFL yesterday when he put his goal past the Crazy Turks at Century Park.

Too round of the miserable day the Turks had yesterday, Willy Thompson is only 14 years and 3 months old, he scored against the Crazy Turks just incase anyone missed what I'm saying.

The youngest known player to score in the SIFL was a young man called Nico Nissl who played for the Krauts in a game against Japan Fc in the 2003/2004 season. Nicco Nissl was 13 years and 3 months old at the time.

Well done to Qi Lin B, terrific result.

Shooters demolish Oranje in a good display of class football, Tom Bus was grateful for the Brian Wallis goal that gave Oranje something to smile about (they needed it).

Cosmos just squeeze past Anzac, Crown and voodoo play a stalemate, Corea Intl batter Sauerkrauts into the next millennium. Krauts and Voodoo love Child hold each other to a draw, Beaver and Azzuri do the same and U-Team sneak past Japan in another close encounter.

Qi Lin A and Latinos did nothing as they didn't report the score and expect the power of telepathy to deliver the result on to the SIFL website. Both teams are guilty of watching too many episodes of Heroes on Star world.

PREMIER league footballers have remained utterly ghastly despite their multi-million pound salaries, according to new research.

Experts say the huge sums invested in the country's top players have failed to alleviate their violent, working class horridness.

Professor Henry Brubaker, of the Institute for Studies, said: "The majority of them remain largely unintelligible and, when not buying fashionable clothing or hitting people, they sit around on their cream leather sofas, watching Jason Statham films and eating Pringles.

"Even someone like Steven Gerrard, who once had the makings of a gentleman, is unable to resist the lure of ghastly suburban nightlcubs frequented by DJs and fitness instructors and moderately successful plasterers.

"And yes, Wayne Rooney does have an impressive wine collection, but only so his dreadfully inarticulate friends will have nice, heavy bottles to smash over each other's heads."

He added: "Remember those nasty boys in school who were gratuitously violent, foul mouthed, disruptive and cruel? Now imagine them with an annual budget of £5 million."

The Institute has proposed a block release system where footballers would spend eight weeks a year at Cambridge learning to use George Bernard Shaw quotes instead of stamping on someone's forehead.

There would also be regular dinners at the Dorchester where players would be awarded points for correctly identifying the dessert fork and then bonus points for not jamming it in someone's windpipe.

An educated, middle-class footballing trend did emerge in the late 1980s when Everton winger Pat Nevin was seen enjoying 'Doonesbury' in the Guardian but ended in 1993 when Blackburn and England full-back Graeme Le Saux was branded a homosexual for using the word 'eclectic' in a post-match interview.

Shanghai Cosmos were established Sept 2008 by James Boyle from a group of guys who had played football socially for 2 years, who now wanted to take their football/drinking more seriously and take on some competitive teams. The first task was to find a bar willing the sponsor the team and give us some start up funds for equipment, kits, league registration, and beer; lucky for us most team members are well known in the shanghai bars. Big Bamboo and Bacardi won the race for our sponsorship and now the next step was to get training venue and try and get semi fit for our first game in the SIFL.

Training from Coach Boyle is at Huo-Che-Tou Stadium on Wednesday evenings, a majority of the squad isn’t from footballing backgrounds but has always been willing to learn and further their ability in training which has achieved some excellent results, with the Cosmos defense being the toughest in the league, only conceding 10 goals in the 13 league fixtures. Along with this miserly defence Jordan Campbell has been on top form, the ginger marksman scoring 13 goals in his 8 games played.

After some good early results in the league, the main task was to keep our players from going out on Friday night so we could continue our good form. Shanghai Cosmos registered 30 players at the start of the season, and due to players leaving Shanghai before Christmas we dropped down to 18-19 players, but luckily for us we have finally got some new recruits on board, but are always looking for more.

The key for promotion from division 1 seems to be keeping a squad together and hoping not too many players are away on business on the same weekend. As in the 14 games as a club we have never been able to keep the same starting eleven in consecutive Saturdays.

With a handful of game left in the season, Shanghai Cosmos currently stand 2nd in the league with Voodoo and Crown ReUnited a close 3rd and 4th respectively. It will be crucial to get results in the final games against the teams around us and hope a few results go in our favour, for us to achieve the first objective; Promotion!

When you look at the success the U-Team have had in the SIFL since their arrival and the strength in depth of their squad you have to ask the question should U-Team field a second string squad in the 2009-2010 season.

Vodoo have the Voodoo Child, Shanghai Shooters have Anzac, Qilin A and B, Beaver have Crown, Krauts and Sauerkrauts. It would be what appears to be a natural progression for big teams within the SIFL. If U-Team are planning to be in and around the top of the league for many season to come then fielding a second team must be something they have to seriously consider in order for them to show true dominance within the league itself.

I for one would find the arrival of a U-Team 2 next season a welcome addition to the SIFL.

The local derby game this weekend between Voodoo and Voodoo child @ Tianma 1pm kick off has been postponed due to unforeseen circumstances beyond both clubs control.

The game will be re scheduled for the 21st March.

Rumours are that a broken finger nail and chipped nail varnish are involved, but hey, they're just rumours and not always to be believed.

Interesting reading are the match reports, when they've all been sent in anyway.

Did you know that the bad boys in the league are U-Team, more crime points for cards than anybody else this season to date. Although a few teams have not bothered to send in their reports for certain games this season which could have changed the results on crime points to date, so maybe they've something shameful to hide, who knows.

Fair play teams this season include the two Qilin teams, Voodoo Child and Vikings, Saurkrauts. I'm sure the Shooters have claim to being one of, if not the cleanest teams in the league but without a report to confirm any claim they may have they'll have to boast it without proof and settle for that this season.

With certain teams having the odd missing match reports it becomes difficult to say who's the cleanest team in the league this season.

My money's sitting with the Saurkrauts so far and I've a sneaky feeling Corea International may yet creep in the back door.

This Saturday See's the return to action for the Hegibuchi cup, semi finals between Corea International and Malone's Shanghai shooters has already sparked for an explosive semi final. Corea International are predicting a win against shooters, Shooters won't like the remark made by Daniel Berger.

Japan take on U-Team in the other semi final and Japan's very own Okawa already claiming victory.

Both games will be very interesting encounters, lets hope both games are played in good spirit and may the best team win.
